Formal training in graphic
arts and a love for oriental art have heavily influenced Debbie
Arnold's
work. Her paintings have evolved and changed greatly over her 25
years of painting. Arnold uses the fluidity and lightness learned
through years as a watercolorist with the ability of acrylics to be
layered. This creates unique paintings with as many as 15 to 20 layers of
transparent paint.
Arnold
works from visions or dreams that take months or
even years to evolve to the point where a painting can begin. They take on a life of their own
with what is created often being a total departure from the original concept.
Her choices in subject matter are about the feeling created by the
shapes, textures and colors rather than the subject matter itself.

Arnold
does not paint a scene or existing scenario, but puts together a
puzzle created by her subconscious. The inspiration for her work
often comes from the relationship between natural and manmade
patterns.
Arnold's accomplishments include several one and two person shows
and entry in numerous juried and invitational exhibits. Her work is
included nationally in several public, private and corporate
collections.
Today Arnold lives and works in Boone, North Carolina. |
